This Month’s Featured Clock:
Mullersches Volksbad, Munich, Germany Photograph by Sano, 2007
Trivia
This historic clock is located on the facade of Muller’s public bath house, which features multiple pools, steam baths, and saunas. During its recent renovation, which type of bath did they remove?
a. A Fubad, or foot bath where doctor fish feed on dead foot skin b. A Zamperlbad, or doggy bath to treat your favorite fuzzy friend
c. A Salzbad, or salt, ionic detox bath to remove toxins from the skin
d. A Blutegelbad, or leech bath to stimulate blood circulation
The turn-of-the-century bath house known as Mullersches Volksbad, translated as Muller’s public bath house, was made possible by a generous donation by Carl Muller, a Munich engineer. Muller’s only stipulation was that the money be used to build an attractive swimming pool that the citizens of Munich could enjoy. Despite its excellent condition, the bath house was recently renovated and updated. Guests will now find a “gentleman’s” pool, a “ladies” pool, showers, individual baths, a Finnish sauna, and steam baths. Unfortunately, during the renovations, they removed the Zamperlbad, or “doggy” bath that was located in the basement.
